We all know I love a good beauty treatment. I mean let’s be honest, most of us do! In Summer especially, it’s all too easy to get carried away with salon appointments, getting your nails did, and generally making sure you’re preened and waxed to perfect in preparation for whatever vay-cay you’ve got coming up next! Earlier this Summer I found myself wondering where all my money had gone (yet again) and realised it was probably mainly spent on shellac and wax appointments getting beach ready! It can be frustrating when it’s no longer winter and it’s not socially acceptable to just hide those hairy legs under a pair of tights (we all do it..) and you suddenly find you need to be ready for bare legs and bikinis at all times! And even more frustrating that, as girls, we find ourselves splashing a lot of our hard-earned cash looking after the up-keep (honestly, boys don’t know how easy they have it until they see how much we all spend on makeup, hair appointments, beauty treatments…) It’s something I usually try and force myself to forget – I mean living in denial is fine, right?! But when Panasonic approached me to write this post about their new Wear Wattage campaign & research and the Panasonic IPL Hair Removal tool – the ES-WH90 it opened my eyes to how I was missing a trick – and probably a lot of you are too!
We find it perfectly normal to justify our expensive clothing or designer bag purchases on a ‘cost-per-wear’ calculation, so why not do the same for our beauty regime? It might seem like a lot to spend when you’re first investing in a beauty tool but once you’ve made that one-off payment and can use your tool unlimited times, imagine how much you’ll save by not having to visit the salon every month? Panasonic’s research has found out that the average life-time salon spend of British women on hair removal alone is £5,300. In the North East it’s as much as £9,000! When you look at it that way, it seems an insane amount to be spending just to get rid of that fuzz! The Panasonic IPL ES-WH90 retails at £349.99, so over it’s life-span (14 years in case you’re wondering) it works out at a measly £24 per year…and of course an even lower cost per use! How much is that saving on your usual leg waxing costs?!
At Home Beauty
I’ll be honest, when it comes to hair removal I do try and do it from home as much as possible. Panasonic found this was also true for 50% of 18-25 year olds who aren’t keen to go into the salon. However with such big advances in tech these days, I do find myself thinking their must be a better way that an at-home shave or wax! The truth is, there are so many at-home alternatives now that are just as good as salon equipment…plus you get the added bonus of being able to do them yourself all from the comfort of your own bathroom!
The Panasonic IPL ES-WH90 is super easy to use, which makes it perfect for someone like me who is a bit lazy when it comes to their beauty regime. IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light, a pain-free, non-abrasive way to prevent hair growth. It works by emitting light into the skin which targets the pigment in the hair and destroys the cells responsible for hair growth. For best results, you have to shave before using it and then simply put the head of the IPL against your skin where you want to target the hair removal and it will flash automatically even 3 seconds, you push and slide so each area of skin gets 1 flash. For the first two months, you treat the area more regularly (once a week for underarms and bikini line, one every 2 weeks for legs and arms) then from the third month onwards you can use it less and less dependant on your results. It starts taking effect after as little as two weeks and you will start to notice that hair isn’t growing back or when it is it’s much finer, lighter and there’s less of it! The Panasonic IPL also has a facial attachment which is an exciting addition – it helps remove dead skin cells and brighten your complexion as well as removing hairs so you really can get so many salon benefits out of the one tool!
I started using mine over the Summer and I can already see the results! The beauty of IPL is that the more you use it, the less the hair grows back so it will just keep getting better any better, with only a little maintenance needed! Miles better than having to go to the salon for a wax every 6 weeks, amiright?!
It’s honestly the perfect solution for Summer beauty when you want to be pool-side ready and spontaneous as much as you can! The idea of Wear Wattage has really made me think about how much it makes sense to invest in beauty tools like this instead of going to the salon every time, and I’ll definitely be looking out for more at-home beauty remedies for sure! Panasonic do an exciting range of products so it’s definitely worth a look even if the IPL hair removal isn’t for you – I’ve got my eye on the 3-in-1 Micro-Current Facial Enhancer next, which uses sonic vibrations and micro current charges to help moisturise, deeply cleanse impurities and target skin raging!
