There’s nothing I love more than travelling to somewhere new. I decided early this year that I wanted 2017 to be a year of travel for me, and although most of that is still yet to come I was lucky enough to be whisked off to a beautiful resort in the Canary Islands a few weeks ago by Anfi Gran Canaria! I hadn’t really thought of going to Gran Canaria before, if I’m honest I’m usually put off by destinations that are typical British holiday spots as I like to try and have a more authentic experience when travelling anywhere….but I was very happy to be proven totally wrong this time! Anfi invited me along to try out their new experience packages, tailored activities that give a taster of the other things on offer on the island rather than just staying in the Anfi Gran Canaria resort, as a lot of holiday-makers tend to do. I was only there for a few short days but with my jam-packed schedule to try out the best of Anfi & Gran Canaria I ended up falling in love with not only the resort but the island itself! Who knew there was so much awesomeness on offer in Gran Canaria?!
Anfi Gran Canaria
The Anfi Resort itself was the first thing that blew me away. It’s a timeshare resort that you can buy into, which might sound a little daunting for some, but I can totally see after staying there why you would want to commit to come back every year. It’s a great way of holidaying, and the kind of place you can fully relax and feel at ease, so once you know your way around it must be a great getaway to come back regularly and feel at home even while you’re away! There are two resorts, Anfi Del Mar which sits on a beautiful white sand beach and turquoise coastline, and Anfi Tauro where I was staying just 15 minutes further in-land which hosts the golf course, lush greenery and some incredible views down the valley to the ocean. The sunset views were some of the best I’ve ever seen anywhere in the world! The Tauro resort was just beautiful, a lot more laid back than it’s beach-side sister with a gorgeous outdoor pool area and restaurant that were perfect for relaxing in, but just a short shuttle bus ride away from the more buzzing Del Mar resort’s beach and restaurant collection! It was the perfect destination for a more quiet getaway if you wanted a stay away from the more family-orientated and resort-style area of Anfi Del Mar.
Time share apartments
All the accommodation at Anfi Gran Canaria is apartments. And hella beautiful apartments at that! I couldn’t believe it when we arrived, I had expected it to be nice, but it went way beyond what I had imagined! Our one-bed apartment was super spacious, with a large open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, giant balcony complete with sun-loungers, and a super comfy bedroom with a hot tub on the side. Yep, that’s right…a hot tub in the bedroom! I pretty much felt like I had walked into the holiday dream. I had a sneak peek at some of the other apartments on offer in the resort too and the different clubs in Anfi Del Mar, and the beautiful luxury quality of them is something that runs throughout, no matter which resort you stay in. One of the best things about the Anfi resort is that you kind of feel it’s perfect for whatever kind of traveller you are or holiday you want. As a resort it’s very family orientated and would be an amazing place to stay with the whole family, but at the same time the luxury quality of the apartments makes for an incredible stay if you’re not going for that vibe too! I was lucky enough to check out some of the penthouses at Anfi Del Mar (sadly not to stay in!) and their incredible new master suite which was luxury at a whole new level – think open plan, beautiful decor and massive sea views – which goes to show they really do have a holiday stay for anyone despite budget or occasion (luxury stag do in a penthouse anyone?!)
Anfi had invited me to Gran Canaria to test-run their new experience packages. Apparently a lot of people on resort holidays don’t take advantage (or maybe don’t even know about) the amazing array of activities that are available, and I soon realised just how much there was to do at Anfi! I arrived to a jam-packed schedule full of exciting activities. On the first day I met with their personal stylist, Susana Álvarez who gave me the most fun fashion-led experience learning about which colours to wear for my skin tone (it might sound silly but it was honestly genius – blog post coming soon) and took me on the ultimate girly shopping spree around Las Palmas! The following day we were treated to a massage in the resort spa at Anfi Del Mar and a delicious lunch at Maroa, the swanky beach club and restaurant on Anfi’s heart-shaped island just off the beach, before spending the rest of the day soaking up some rays and sipping mojitos on their giant sun lounger beds. On the final day we went windsurfing which was so much fun and something I’ve wanted to do for ages! It was the first time I’d tried it but the teachers were great and by the end of our 2 hour course I was sailing around like a (not quite) pro! Anfi even arranged for us to meet Daida Moreno, windsurfing world champion and all-round super inspiring woman who was born in Gran Canaria! On the way back from the beach, we stopped off at the Maspalomas Dunes, huge rolling desert-like dunes that go all the way to the sea. I had no idea there were such amazing landscapes in Gran Canaria and this really opened my eyes to how awesome the natural beauty of the island is – from the white sane beaches of Anfi Del Mar, to the space-like rockery and lush greenery of Tauro valley to the desert views of Maspalomas. I realised Gran Canaria is definitely a lot more than the ‘brits abroad’ reputation we’ve given it! In the evenings we enjoyed trying out some of the many restaurants along the waterfront of the Anfi Del Mar resort and soaking up the atmosphere. I was really impressed by how much there was on offer to do either organised by or at the resort itself – and what we did in the three days we were there barely scratched the surface! I spent the whole trip longing for more time to see and try it all!
I would definitely recommend checking out Anfi Gran Canaria next time you’re looking for a holiday destination. I had the best time and wished I could stay longer! The resort is beautiful and although I’d never thought about timeshares before it’s definitely something I’d now consider for the future. Fingers crossed I’ll get to go back at some point! A huge thank you to Anfi Group for hosting me and giving me the chance to explore the resort and activities!
