It does make me laugh a little bit how much everyone suddenly goes crazy for New Year fitness as soon as January comes around. I go the park most mornings by my house to drink a cup of tea and get some daylight and fresh air before a day working at my home office, and since the 2nd of January it’s been amazing how many more people are out there. Runners at all hours of the day pounding up and down the tarmac, dog walkers with their disobedient dogs, and even the occasional dedicated boot-camper doing their interval training! It’s quite funny to see how many people jump on the fitness wagon as soon as it’s a new year but I guess even if it is a bit of a cliche it’s still good that January gets even the laziest of us motivated! I’ve always been into fitness and keeping healthy – whether it’s running, my love of yoga, trying out the latest health food fad, or testing out veggie/vegan recipes from the likes of Deliciously Ella – but 2016 was the year that I made my love of health and wellness a much bigger part of my life. I embraced my yoga obsession with regular practice, retreats and started working for an online yoga company (more on that if you read on). In 2017 I’m not only planning to spend more time in my day-to-day life on fitness and healthy eating, I am also planning to make Wellness a bigger part of my blog and what I write about here. After all, I want this little section of cyber space to reflect more of who I am and what I love! After all the change I’ve gone through in the last year, I finally have the time and space to myself to explore these kind of interests and I plan to make the most out of it that I can! I’ve got a few things planned over the next month or so that I’ll be talking about in this blog’s new Wellness section and featuring on my social channels, so I thought I’d share a little bit with you now so you get an idea of what I’m into when it comes to fitness and what you might be reading more about soon on my blog!
Movement for Modern Life
First up, a bit more detail on what exactly it is that I’m doing with my time and working on since I left my job at boohoo last year. I am now working freelance for online yoga company, Movement for Modern Life. They’re an awesome company offering online lessons from a selection of the best yoga teachers so you can practice from home (or from wherever you like!) My big thing with yoga is that people don’t really realise just how good it is for you and how good it makes you feel on so many levels. I genuinely believe that everyone would benefit from and enjoy practising if only they gave it a chance, found the right teacher and the right class. That’s why I was so keen to work for MFML since they promote the exact same message and make yoga accessible to anyone and everyone. There are hundreds of classes whether you want to practice for 5 minutes or 2 hours, meditation and pilates classes along with yoga, and you can search by yoga style or even what mood you’re in to help you find the best class for you! As you can tell, I’m already a convert and my new mission as their Marketing gal is to help spread the word! If you’re interested in hearing more (or you’re a blogger wanting to try it out for yourself) then please do drop me an email! Or if trying yoga is one of your new year fitness resolutions and you’d like to try it out for yourself, sign up for a 2 week free trial here.
Right, that’s my MFML marketing chat over (sorry about that and well done if you’ve made it this far through the post – I can’t help getting a bit carried away when I really like something!) and on to another blogging project I’m working on for January with Virgin Active. Apparently it takes 21 days to form a habit so Virgin have challenged some bloggers to try it out and form their own new year fitness habit during January at one of their gyms! Now, I’m going to put my hands up and admit I’ve never been much of a gym goer. I’ve had my moments, but I can’t help but prefer the fresh air and more mindful exercise like running or yoga. That said, I love a good exercise class or swim (read: sauna session) so I will definitely be trying those out with my new membership to Virgin Active in Islington. However, I wanted to challenge myself to try something new this year, so I’ll also be working with a personal trainer at Virgin for the first time in my life (I guess I’m a Virgin gym….virgin? haha) to develop some new workout habits and hopefully convert me to a new way of exercising…who knows, maybe I’ll even end up loving going to the gym! Follow my instagram over the next few weeks to check out what I get up to…maybe I’ll even post my first gym selfie!!
F45 Tottenham Court Road
There’s one more fitness thing in the pipeline which is pretty exciting…my cousin recently moved back to London after 2 years in Australia, and brought back not only her Aussie boyfriend but their new business venture! They’re bringing a gym franchise called F45 over to the UK and opening their own gym in Tottenham Court Road. It’s very exciting stuff, and I’ll be working with them once they’re set up, trying out the classes and hopefully working from their office a little bit too since we’ve all suddenly become adults and started working for ourselves, which can be a lonely venture if you’re on your own all the time! I’m really excited to try out F45, it’s a new fitness concept over here and not like anything I’ve tried before. It’s a 45 minute, super demanding HIIT class (high intensity interval training) and has a cult celeb following over in Australia with claims it changes your physique more than any other workout! I’m not going to lie, it sounds pretty damn scary to me, but I’m looking forward to trying it out – it sounds like it could be set to be the latest fitness craze in London! If you want to find out more, visit their website here where you can sign up for a free 2 week trial once the gym opens next month!
Of course one of the fun parts of making new year fitness resolutions is having an excuse to invest in a new fitness wardrobe! (there has to be something to help motivate you, right?!) I’m excited to be working with Fabletics on some outfit posts and fitness projects in the new year so of course wanted to show you my new fitnesswear from their collection. If you haven’t checked out their site before, definitely take a look here. They get new products in monthly and will give you outfit recommendations when you sign up to help you browse the site easily! The fitness wear is great quality and there’s so much choice in style and print, and colour. I’m in love with these leggings – they fit so well and the material is perfect for working out in! I can tell I’ll be getting these in a few different colours and prints to wear to yoga or the gym! To help track and improve my fitness and set some new year fitness goals, I’m also wearing my health and fitness tracker from Misfit, the Ray tracker. It’s really helping me track my progress and monitor my steps, exercise, weight, diet and sleep to improve my overall health. You can read my full review of the Misfit Ray here.
I hope you enjoyed today’s Fitness post. Please share your new year fitness resolutions in the comments below – I’d love to get some inspiration from fellow health & fitness lovers!
