TECH | HP Sprocket Photo Printer Review

I’m one of those people who has always loved having photos – actual, physical photos rather than just instagram uploads or a phone full of pictures. At Uni I was always the one with a disposable camera that I could go and get developed after a night out and surprise everyone with the prints and my walls were covered in snaps of me and my friends or places that I loved. As much as I love the fact that now I can carry my photo memories on my iPhone or curate my own gallery on instagram, there’s something more special and nostalgic about having the actual prints to browse through and treasure. So when I was asked to review the new HP Sprocket Photo Printer, I jumped at the chance to try out a new piece of photo-tech!

The HP Sprocket is a mini photo printer that prints out polaroid-style snaps via bluetooth straight from your social channels or your phone’s camera roll to create cute 2×3 inch mini polaroid prints. Via the sprocket app on iOS or Android, you can edit your pics, add borders, or customise with text and stickers to create your perfect polaroids. The printer itself is super cute – a sleek slimline design in white and rose gold (there’s also a black and silver version) and best of all it’s pocket size so you could easily carry it around to print your pics while on a night out! The result is a collection of customised mini prints that can also be used as stickers (just peel off the back of the film). The quality and colour of the imagery is great and the prints make super cute keepsakes. They would be fab to have at a Christmas party or an event for people to take away. I can imagine using mine to take snaps around the table on Christmas day to share with the family or on a night out with the girls to wake up with a cute reminder of the night before!

I couldn’t resist using mine to print out some snaps from the trip I took this week to the Caribbean that you might have seen on my insta (blog post coming soon!) Although I was in sunnier climes (Miami, Carribean & Mexico), we still managed to get the party season off to a roaring start (although hearing christmas songs in that weather was seriously strange…) and took tons of snaps on our nights out and days exploring. For a trip like that, these mini prints make the perfect souvenirs both for you and whoever you’re travelling with or meeting while you’re there! I love this cute collection of pics from my trip now, I might even make a new photo wall collage in honour of my Uni days!

In terms of using the printer and app, it couldn’t be easier. The app is very self explanatory; you simply have to upload, edit and click print. Once connected to the printer via your phone’s bluetooth you can access your photos from social or camera roll and your photo will print with just the tap on the app. The only thing I would possibly change or improve would be the border options so there was more variety (if like me you have mostly square photos, it can be a bit tricky!) and the size of the print outs. The mini size is cute but it would be great to have different size options or printers in the range too so you can print bigger pics!

All in all, I’m a big fan of the printer and it’s perfect for taking to a party in your clutch bag , or as a Christmas present for any fellow photo-lovers out there! At £99, it’s not super cheap but it will bring lots of fun to an party or get together and help you start building a photo album IRL, not just on insta!

I see that you were able to solve the mystery of how to print square photos. I have not yet figured it out. What did you do? Your advice would be appreciated.
