Christmas has been and gone, and I hope you all had a wonderful one! Now it’s getting to that time of year when everyone is thinking about getting back on the fitness wagon and working off all those extra turkey sandwiches, glasses of Baileys and general indulgence that make up everything that Christmas is about. I’ve found myself in a much better place this year, I seem to have finally got to a point in my life where I can let go, eat what I want and not find myself worrying or sucking in my stomach the next day. I think in some ways it’s just part of growing up but mostly it’s because I’ve got into a good place, health-wise. This year for me has been a year of learning to nourish my body instead of criticising it; I’ve learnt how to eat healthily without eating badly, fallen even further in love with yoga and the idea of exercising positively, and got into mindset where (most of the time at least) I’ve learned to be happy with what I’ve got rather than looking in the mirror and only seeing what I want to change. All my 2016 resolutions are going to be about holding on to that feeling: staying healthy, practising more yoga and meditation, and generally being more at one with my body and myself. Let’s hope this year they last!
In terms of fitness, I’m not one for a strict regime. As I said, my main form of exercise is practising yoga which I find gives me a much more positive experience of exercise – it’s all about working with your body and strength rather than pushing yourself to strain harder – but I also love to run. I love the cardio boost and the endorphins that running gives but also the alone time and the space to clear my head. My life is pretty non-stop most of the time (as are most people’s these days) and working in Social Media as well as blogging means it can be hard to get much proper switched-off, un-plugged, disconnected down-time so I like my exercise regime to be a place where I can find that.
So when Get the Label asked me to style up some of their fitnesswear,I went for an outfit that would work for the types of exercise I do the most. These Adidas leggings are a super comfy fit and the fabric keeps in the heat if I’m running out in the cold air or or provides ventilation if I’m in a hot bikram yoga session! The top is perfect as a coverup in yoga too; easy to move in and great for keeping cool without having to go the whole hog and just wear a sports bra (my abs aren’t quite ready for that yet)! I topped off my look with some trusty Nike trainers. My trainer collection has exploded this year and I can’t resist a pair of Nikes, especially these retro-style beauties. Nike trainers are just the comfiest and honestly feel like you’re running on air when you wear them, although truth be told I don’t often wear them for actual running, just on my commute in the mornings or to top off a cool outfit!
