we’ve got the dreamer’s disease

When the rain falls
they talk of Manchester,
but when the triumphant rain falls
we think of rainbows.
It’s the Mancunian way
-Lemn Sissay
This poem is on the wall right next to the University Halls I used to live in last year. I used to walk past every day on my way to lectures (quite often in the rain – let’s face it, this is Manchester). It took me ages to stop and actually read what it said – it is quite an effort to work it out, I only ever read the word “rain” at first – but one day Nia and I stopped in the middle of the street to stand at read it and literally fell in love with it! It makes me so happy every time I walk past it taking up the whole of the wall of the building it’s on. (It makes me laugh that it’s above two kebab shops though! Typical Manchester!)
Anyway, just wanted to share it as a bit of inspiration for the week. And as a pick me up (I’ve been nursing a massive hangover all day, haha) – I know it’s so simple but for some reason it really inspires me about the world and never fails to make me smile!
Hope you all enjoy it too 🙂
